7th Annual Women Swimmin' for Hospicare

What an amazing day! With warm sunshine but too much wind and chop for us to swim across the lake, we moved quickly to our back-up plan to conduct a south-north swim along the shore. As the first wave of swimmers approached the shore, the wind picked up and we recognized that it would be unsafe to send the second wave of swimmers out. A small group of swimmers came together and suggested a short swim in the cove north of the yacht club. Volunteers quickly came together to ensure that the swim could take place safely.

Understandably, some swimmers were disappointed by not being able to swim across the lake, having trained and anticipated this event for some time. However, by morning's end, we were moved and inspired by people's enthusiasm and willingness to be creative and make the best of the conditions of the day.

Together we exceeded our fundraising goal by raising $269,400, which will go directly to support patient and family services here in Tompkins County.

We are profoundly grateful for the incredible generosity of all those who participated in myriad ways.

Women Swimmin' is a community swim (not a race!) across Cayuga Lake for women ages 18 and over. Together we raise funds which will go directly to support patient and family services here in Tompkins County.
